The Seminar for Church Music of the Protestant Academy has its first graduates

11. listopadu 2013

With a solemn service in the Red Church in Brno, a three-year course of church music ended for seventeen students. This course was directed by Ladislav Moravetz, Cantor for the whole Church, with the help of several other lecturers, under the umbrella of the Protestant Academy. Students of different age groups met over a three year period, every first Saturday of the month, in Olomouc and prepared themselves for the work of a church cantor, organist and choirmaster. In addition to practical skills in these fields, they also studied minor subjects such as hymnology, history of church music, vocal training and more.

„Today, we have reason to rejoice. A great thing has happened, in a small Church perhaps a small miracle.“ said Ladislav Moravetz in his speech, as he gave the musicians their certificates. The first graduates of the seminary for Church music come from every corner of Bohemia and Moravia. They received certificates and congratulations from the hands of Moderator Joel Ruml, Lay Moderator Lia Valková, the head of the Protestant Academy Martina Sklenářová, the Cantor for the whole Church Ladislav Moravetz and the lecturers. „The Church expects of musically educated people the service of a cantor which is both challenging and beautiful.“ said Joel Ruml in his speech to the graduates.

The festive service was accompanied by several organ pieces performed by the graduates of the seminar and several appearances of the graduate choir which was directed by several graduates in turn. The art appreciation of all who had come to the Red Church, the family members, friends and members of the home parishes, was complemented by a pleasant atmosphere, the impact of good work done and the hope that music, which always holds an important place in the life of the Protestant Church, has now a chance to further develop in higher quality.
